The Title

What does
“Soul-Sense”
even mean?

You feel pain, weakness, fear, pleasure. The world tells you all of it travels through your nerves — that sensation lives in the flesh.

Soul-Sense makes a different claim, and makes it without flinching: that sensation was never in matter at all. That the one true faculty of awareness is not a nerve but Soul — the conscious, constant capacity by which God knows His own creation, reflected in you.

The title is the thesis: Soul-sense is man’s only sense. Not a poetic upgrade to the five senses, but the recognition that the real sense was always spiritual — and the “material nerve,” with its freight of pain and weakness, a counterfeit with no original. This book is the patient, layer-by-layer demonstration of that one idea.

1821 – 1910

Who was
Mary Baker
Eddy?

An American religious leader and author — the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.

After a lifetime of illness and a sudden recovery she attributed to a spiritual insight drawn from the Gospels, she spent decades setting that insight down in a complete system of thought. Her central work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, has been read by millions and remains one of the most influential spiritual texts written in America.

Her claim was bold: that God is the only Mind, that man is wholly spiritual, and that the material body — with its supposed laws of sickness and decay — has no power that understanding cannot overrule. Her writings are now in the public domain, which is why every quotation in this book is drawn directly and honestly from her own words.

Why this matters to you

The belief this book confronts is one you almost certainly hold — and have never once examined.

You were taught, from childhood, that you are a body: a structure of nerves and tissue that feels, fails, remembers its wounds, and is handed its weaknesses by heredity. You have probably never asked whether that picture is true. You have only lived inside it.

Soul-Sense asks the question you were never given permission to ask: what if the picture itself is the problem? What if the self you believe is trapped in failing flesh was never inside the body at all — and seeing that, clearly and completely, is the beginning of a freedom you didn’t know was available? You don’t have to already believe to find that question worth your time. You only have to be willing to look.

The Gold Within

Why read this — and not just
Science and Health itself?

A fair question. The honest answer: read both — this book sends you back to her, not away from her.

But Eddy’s writing is vast and arranged by topic across hundreds of pages — her truths stated, declared, scattered like seed. Magnificent, but never assembled into a single sustained argument aimed at one target. Soul-Sense does what her text was never structured to do: it takes one specific claim — the belief in material nerves — and gathers, from across the whole body of her work, every idea that bears on it, into the single most compelling case that can be made against it. It is the difference between owning a quarry and being handed the finished cathedral.

I

One claim, to the root

Not a survey of Christian Science — a focused undoing of a single belief: that nerves think, hurt, store trauma, govern, and are inherited.

II

Built as an argument

Premise, indictment, the hidden operator behind the lie, the affirmative revelation, the practice, and the close in pure Science.

III

Drawn wholly from her

Nothing borrowed from physiology or outside opinion. The case is built from a single quarry: the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

IV

Poured in by floodtides

Her own method — line upon line, layer upon layer — until the belief has no corner left to hide in.

“But what about my doctor?”

This is the most important question on this page, so let’s be completely plain. This book is not medical advice. It is not a substitute for your physician. Malcolm Kingley is not a doctor, and nothing here asks you to leave one. This is not an argument against medicine, against doctors, or against anyone’s choice to seek the care they need.

Here is the distinction that resolves the question: medicine and this book are not answering the same question. Medicine asks what to do about the body. Soul-Sense asks something else entirely — what is the body, and where does sensation truly live? It is a work of understanding and spiritual conviction, not a prescription.

You are not asked to choose between your doctor and this book; they occupy different rooms. One treats a condition; the other examines a belief. You can keep every appointment you have and still find here something your doctor was never in the business of offering: a way of seeing that holds a very special place in understanding.

Who it is for

The seeker and the seasoned alike

New to these ideas

You need no background. The book defines its terms and lays its ground before arguing a single point — the most accessible serious doorway into how Christian Science thinks: one claim, followed all the way down, in plain and rising layers.

Years on the path

You will find a concentration you may never have seen applied to this one claim — the five assertions of the “material nerve” each answered, heredity and animal magnetism unmasked, and the affirmative built back to the Scientific Statement of Being.
